Shannon “Shack” Lackey graduated from Northwestern University in 2022 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology. She is currently pursing a M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC Davis with a focus on Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS). ECLSS perfectly captures the intersection of her interests in chemical engineering and human space flight.
During her time at Northwestern, she was member of Northwestern’s Rocket Club which built high powered rockets and competed in the yearly NASA Student Launch competition. She was also a member of women’s varsity field hockey team which went on to win the Division I NCAA National Championship in 2022. She is continuing her field hockey career as an Aggie at UC Davis.
Shack completed her first internship at UGI Energy Services learning about process engineering and studying the emissions from several natural gas compressor sites across eastern Pennsylvania. After this, she completed an internship at SpaceX working on the materials team in Cape Canaveral, FL to support heat shield production for Starship. She will return to SpaceX in the summer of 2023 to join the Dragon Life Support System team in Hawthorne, CA. When Shack is not working or playing field hockey, she enjoys camping, film photography, and
yoga!
